Broadband Technologies
Broadband is basically a high-speed connection to the Internet -- anything faster than dial-up. Broadband technology options come in two forms – wired and wireless.
Wired
Wired broadband technology options are provided either via copper lines, power lines or fiber optic lines. Tradition wired broadband options include T1 lines, DSL lines and Cable Modem lines. Emerging wired options include broadband over power lines and fiber optic lines, which are connected directly to a business or residence. Click here to learn more about wired broadband technologies.
Wireless
Wireless broadband technologies are more recent options available to businesses and residential customers. These include Satellite, Wi-Fi, WiMAX and cellular based systems. Some systems, such as WiMAX and cellular (3G, 4G) options, are still in development stages. Click here to learn more about wireless broadband technologies.
Some communities have multiple broadband connectivity options, while others may have only one or none at all. Continued expansion and installation of these options is growing. If your home or community does not have connectivity options at this time, please go to "Need Broadband" to contact a broadband provider in West Virginia.
