Checklist - Internet and Data Security & Maintenance

1) Make sure you keep your computer's operating system is up-to-date with the latest upgrades, patches

2) Make sure you have some type of virus protection software and remember to allow the installation of all updates (which are usually provided once a week). Run a full virus scan on a regular basis.

3) Change your passwords regularly and don't use simple passwords (nor use the same password for everything)

4) Download/use some form of spyware and adware software, such as Lavasoft Ad-aware, Spybot Search and Destroy and Microsoft Antispyware software...update all definitions regularly!!

5) Make sure you perform some type of regular back-up of the data that is stored on your computer. Store your backups in another location than your home (office, bank safe deposit box)
